Macquarie Telecom’s Intellicentre 2 is Australia’s only design to be officially certified as Tier III, and represents the global industry’s premium level of service for data centre service providers.
Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) June 28, 2013
Uptime Institute announced that Macquarie Telecom’s (ASX: MAQ) Intellicentre 2, is the first data centre in Australia to receive Tier III Design Certification. Intellicentre 2 is a $60 million, 20,000 square metre, world-class data centre in North Ryde, Sydney.
With its stringent guidelines and evaluation procedure, the Uptime Institute’s Certification is a key measure of resilience and excellence for businesses worldwide. To achieve Tier III Certification by the Uptime Institute, a data centre must be ‘Concurrently Maintainable’, meaning shutdowns for equipment replacement or maintenance are eliminated.
The Uptime Institute welcomed Macquarie Telecom’s entry into a prestigious, global group of Tier Certified data centre service providers, and warned of a growing trend of “self-certification” in the Australian market: “Macquarie Telecom’s Intellicentre 2 is Australia’s only design to be officially certified as Tier III, and represents the global industry’s premium level of service for data centre service providers.”
“Macquarie Telecom’s Certification is of special significance in a time of growing self-certification in Australia. We are aware of a number of Australian vendors marketing themselves as being ‘built to Tier III standards’ or otherwise claiming to meet the Uptime Institute’s requirements for Certification. Customers need to be wary of self-certification by data centre vendors and demand compliance to Tier for each and every critical system. We congratulate Macquarie Telecom’s Intellicentre 2 for meeting the stringent requirements for Tier III Design Certification,” said Julian Kudritzki , Vice President, Uptime Institute.
“When we designed the Intellicentre 2, we wanted to push the boundaries of technical and operational excellence in all facets of data centre development,” said Aidan Tudehope, Managing Director, Hosting, Macquarie Telecom. “Being independently certified as a Tier III Design will give our clients the assurance that their mission critical applications are safely hosted in a highly resilient and secure data centre”.
“We are extremely proud to have been called out as a market leader in Australian data centre design, as well as one of only a handful of leading global providers to achieve service delivery at the high levels of uptime that Tier III signifies. Businesses both in Australia and globally know they can trust Macquarie Telecom’s more than 10 years of operational experience to deliver exactly what we say we will, if not significantly more,” added Tudehope.
Macquarie Telecom’s existing Intellicentre 1 facility is one of the most secure and accredited data centres in Australia with ASIO T4 Intruder Protection, Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) Gateway, Payment Card Industry (PCI DSS) and ISO27001 Security certifications.
