Goal is to move beyond traditional training to focus on changing user behavior

The next generation of security awareness programs move away from simply putting users through training and expecting them to change - Mike Murray, MAD Security

MAD Security, LLC (http://www.madsecinc.com), a leading provider of IT Security Training solutions to the U.S. Federal Government, announced today that it was awarded a $1.2M Four-Year BPA Contract with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) a division of the Department of Homeland Security to provide Cyber Security Training and Support services. Under this contract, MAD Security will work under the direction of the USCG Cyber Program directive in achieving their mission to protect USCG users, computer systems and information from cyber attacks and provide expertise in security awareness and behavioral modification programs across the Agency.

“The next generation of security awareness programs move away from simply putting users through training and expecting them to change”, says Mike Murray, MAD Security’s Managing Partner and head of instructional design. “The goal is to work within the culture of a unique organization like USCG to create a program that changes behavior among the user community in a measurable and repeatable way to actually increase the security of the organization.”

This award from USCG is a strong vote of confidence in MAD Security’s ability to further enhance the overall security posture of USCG using behavioral modification and analysis strategies to replace the traditional security awareness training that most organizations currently use. The MAD Security program will provide a current look at how USCG security levels are affected by user behavior and provide a metrics-based approach to improving security through targeted behavior design activities across the organization and allow the USCG to achieve a higher level of user awareness.

Aaron Cohen, Managing Partner at MAD Security says, “We commend the USCG on their strategy to change status quo and move away from the typical ‘check the box’ strategy. Through this contract, the US Coast Guard will be among the first government organizations to enact a user behavior modification program in order to achieve FISMA compliance and more importantly achieve measurable improvement in organization-wide security through the investment in their people”.
