Professionals will have the opportunity to learn from an industry-seasoned Minitab trainer, who will emphasize techniques for improving quality in manufacturing.

Minitab Inc., the leading provider of software for quality improvement and statistics education, will offer its Manufacturing Quality training series March 5-9, 2012, at Training to You, 2200 North Central Avenue, Suite 405, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

The series consists of six day-long courses:

  •     Day 1: Introduction to Minitab
  •     Day 2: Basic Statistics
  •     Day 3: Statistical Quality Analysis
  •     Day 4: Factorial Designs
  •     Day 5: Introduction to Reliability
  •     Day 6: Advanced Reliability

The courses are tailored for professionals working in the automotive industry, chemical production plants and other companies involved in manufacturing. The course materials include examples with metrics such as diameters, pressure and hardness.

The full six days of training costs $2550; registration for individual sessions is also available. People who register for two or more days of training and pay before October 14, 2012 receive a 10% early-bird discount. In addition, two or more people from the same organization receive a 5% discount if they register before November 13. All of Minitab’s instructor-led training includes plenty of time to practice what you learn under the guidance of expert trainers with years of experience implementing quality improvement projects. Trainers make complex concepts easy to grasp, and are highly regarded for their engaging style and personal attention.

Eduardo Santiago, Minitab technical training specialist, will be the instructor for the Phoenix sessions. “My training style is very interactive and learner-focused,” he says. “My goal is to make sure that participants truly understand the material so they can apply Minitab in their work.”

Santiago earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from CETYS-Universidad, one of Mexico’s premier educational institutions, and later earned an M.Eng. and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from Penn State, focusing on how to collect the greatest amount of useful data in the fewest number of runs in expensive testing situations.

He earned Six Sigma certification from Sony while working as a quality improvement consultant for clients such as Plantronics, RCA Display, URBI Homes and Markofoam, a Sony supplier. Now Santiago combines his passion for teaching and his quality improvement experience to help others get the maximum benefit from Minitab software.

The skills covered in the six day-long courses are detailed below.

Introduction to Minitab
Participants learn to create, manipulate, and restructure data, and how to create and interpret a wide variety of graphs and numerical measures useful for quality improvement initiatives. Topics include Charts, Histograms, Boxplots, Dotplots, Scatterplots, Tables, Measures of Location and Variation and ODBC.

Basic Statistics
Participants learn to match appropriate statistical tools to their own applications and how to correctly interpret statistical output to quickly reveal problems or show evidence of improvement. Participants explore critical features in their processes through statistical modeling tools that help to uncover and describe relationships between variables. Topics include t-Tests, Proportion Tests, Tests for Equal Variance, Power and Sample Size, Correlation, Simple Linear and Multiple Regression, ANOVA and GLM.

Statistical Quality Analysis
Participants learn the basic fundamentals of statistical process control and how these quality tools can provide the necessary evidence to improve and control manufacturing processes. Topics include Gage R&R, Destructive Testing, Gage Linearity and Bias, Attribute Agreement, Variables and Attribute Control Charts, Capability Analysis for Normal, Non-normal and Attribute data.

Factorial Designs
Participants learn to generate full and fractional factorial designed experiments, then interpret and communicate results to improve products and processes, reduce process variation, and expedite development projects. Topics include Design of Factorial Experiments; Normal Effects Plot and Pareto of Effects; Power and Sample Size; Main Effect, Interaction, and Cube Plots; Center Points; Overlaid Contour Plots; and Multiple Response Optimization.

Introduction to Reliability
Participants learn to determine lifetime characteristics of a product using both graphical and quantitative analysis methods. Participants explore the common distributions used to model failure rates and develop necessary skills in choosing models. Topics include Parametric and Nonparametric Distribution Analysis, Estimation and Demonstration Test Plans, Growth Curves, Multiple Failure Modes, Warranty Predictions and Weibayes Analysis.

Advanced Reliability
Participants learn to study and describe the impact explanatory variables have on product lifetime and how to use appropriate probability models to predict important lifetime product characteristics. Topics include Probit Analysis, Regression with Life Data, Accelerated Life Testing and Test Plans.
