Braintree Expands End-to-End Printing Services with Purchase of Moll Marathon Folder/Gluer

Braintree Printing, one of New England’s leading offset and digital printing companies, has expanded its finishing capabilities with the addition of a new Marathon folder/gluer by B&R Moll. This fast and versatile machine follows the company’s recent acquisition of a reconstructed Heidelberg die cutter, ensuring that all printing services, from pre-press to printing and finishing are completed in-house.

“Finishing is the final step in the printing process and it makes a huge impression,” said Jim Corliss.

Braintree Printing, a leading offset and digital printing company serving printers and print brokers throughout the Northeast, has expanded its fleet of finishing equipment once again with the addition of a Marathon folder/gluer machine, by B&R Moll Inc., a manufacturer of folder/gluers and specialized bindery and finishing equipment.

Determined to offer his customers end to end printing services, Braintree Printing owner Jim Corliss has tripled the size of the bindery and finishing department at his Braintree, MA plant over the past five years. Braintree Printing has an extensive fleet of finishing equipment capable of folding, laminating, coil/gbc/cloth binding, perfect binding, stitching, wafer sealing, trimming, index tabbing and coating.

Last month, Braintree Printing installed a rebuilt Heidelberg die cutter, formerly a vintage printing press. It is being used primarily to die cut 9” x 12” pocket folders which will then be folded and glued on the new Moll Marathon. Lorenzo Bascaino of B&R Moll and Steve Pasquariello of Pasquariello Graphics collaborated on Braintree Printing's purchase and installation of the Marathon pocket folder converter.

“Finishing is the final step in the printing process and it makes a huge impression,” said Corliss. “We can get the paper stock and the ink just right, but if a folder is cut incorrectly or coming apart at the seams, the end product will not be good. Keeping everything under one roof allows us to control the quality from end to end and satisfy our customers’ high expectations.”

Before expanding its bindery and finishing department, Braintree Printing sent die cutting and folding/gluing jobs to an outside vendor. Corliss said having the new Marathon folder/gluer in-house will eliminate downtime, speed up the final finished product and lower the total cost for the customer.

Corliss said he purchased the Moll Marathon folder/gluer for its speed, versatility, and ability to produce a variety of layouts. The Marathon has a pulse control feeding mechanism and electronic pile height controlled feeder. A tipper fold plate with anti-marking rollers allows for heavier stocks to be folded and a plow fold table placed at the end of the unit creates more high-speed folding options.
