Market Survey Shows Widening Price Differential Between Online And Retail Eyglasses Sales
Overall conclusions of the marketing research by an independent third party1 verifies that eyeglasses purchased online at Clearly Contacts are priced 57% to 76% lower than the same items purchased from optometrists and traditional retail outlets.
Vancouver, British Columbia (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 25, 2009 -- Overall conclusions of the marketing research by an independent third party(1) verifies that eyeglasses purchased online at Clearly Contacts are priced 57% to 76% lower than the same items purchased from optometrists and traditional retail outlets.
"This is precisely the reason that I started Clearly Contacts in 2000," says CEO and Co-Founder Roger Hardy. "Working for a contact lens manufacturer in my 20's, I realized the mark ups that optical stores charged consumers were high. I knew there must be a better, direct, more affordable way to bring vision care products to consumers; Internet retail cut out the middle men and mark ups."
The high prices and price increases at retail outlets have forced many consumers to look for a more affordable option, which they have been able to find online. Faced with a dwindling customer base due to the increased competition from online firms such as Clearly Contacts, and increasing costs, it appears that retail outlets have raised their prices.
"Our business model has always been to provide state of the art quality vision enhancement products at affordable prices, with fast delivery and outstanding customer service," says CEO Hardy. "The response from our expanding customer base proves that it works."
The survey, conducted amongst Lower Mainland Retailers, showed a marked difference in prices for standard lenses ranging from $90 to $400 suggesting that different brands of lenses and different lens manufacturers are being used.
The market research conductor asked each retailer for the price on five different frames. Specific brands were researched such as Gucci, Christian Dior, and Hugo Boss, all with standard lenses. It was found that traditional retail outlets and Optical stores charged between 57% and 76% more than www.clearlycontacts.ca for the same pair of eyeglasses.
The survey was conducted throughout the Lower Mainland area of Vancouver and was done in person and over the phone. A pair of Calvin Klein eyeglasses was found to cost on average $466 at an optical store, and $110 at Clearly Contacts.ca. This finding took into account all deals and discounts being offered by the retailers at the time as well. Clearly Contacts has further lowered its prices to include a $38 category, something that is not offered by any traditional optical retailer.
Clearly Contacts is proud to have been proven correct by the survey which substantiates its motto - "Saving the world from overpriced vision care".
