Consumers Bullish on Home Improvement Projects, Spending for Summer & Fall; Majority Utilize Search Engines and Expert Blogs for Research Information

Newly released data from Haven Home Media (, the leading online vertical media company focused on the home improvement market, accumulated leveraging Vizu Corporation’s ( real time, brand advertising effectiveness platform, reveals that 93% of consumers polled are ready to start spending on home improvement projects in the next six months.

The survey was conducted over three weeks in June 2010 and is based on 447 homeowner survey responses taken online across more than 45 websites.

Data also reveals a major trend in online consumer habits. More than 68% of those surveyed relied on search engines to find expert bloggers and websites for research and guidance with their home improvement projects, while only 25% rely on websites from popular TV shows and magazines.

“This is very interesting insight into consumer’s spending plans and their online habits for home improvement advertisers,” said Haven Home Media CEO Daniel Meehan. “Our company is thriving as a direct result of these two major trends; homeowners are finding expert content about home improvement ideas across a growing list of niche publishers, and this represents a huge audience of valuable consumers for advertisers who are often ready to buy products for their home projects.”

The data is in sync with a recently released survey from American Express that found 62% of respondents were planning to make home improvements this year. A report from Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies also noted an increase of 5% in home improvement/remodeling this year over last year. Additionally, both Lowe’s and Home Depot had better-than-expected earnings reports, a key indicator in the home improvement market.

“VIZU has recently incorporated new capabilities into our brand advertising effectiveness platform that allow forward-thinking, online media companies like Haven Home Media to leverage real-time data to quickly and efficiently illustrate key audience traits,” said Dan Beltramo, CEO of VIZU. “Combining these targeting and characterization capabilities with our brand lift measurement and optimization solutions will allow us to bring a new level of value to our customers. We look forward to working more with Haven Home on audience identification in the future.”
