We’re excited to have a seasoned CFO like Mary Chaput who can speak to the financial impact of a data breach on an organization in a way that helps those responsible for protecting that data develop a strong business case for investing in data security.

Today, Clearwater Compliance announced that its CFO and Compliance Officer, Mary Chaput, will join Internet Security Alliance leader, Larry Clinton, in speaking at the SC Congress Canada Conference at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario on May 9, 2012.

Illena Armstrong, VP and Editorial Director of SC Magazine, said “The mission of SC Congress Canada is to provide practical solutions to help organizations protect their and their customers’ assets from cyber attacks and to come into regulatory compliance. We’re excited to have a seasoned CFO like Mary Chaput who can speak to the financial impact of a data breach on an organization in a way that helps those responsible for protecting that data develop a strong business case for investing in data security.”

The focus of Ms. Chaput and Mr. Clinton’s talk will be on the Economics of Cybersecurity: Why is data security so critical for success and how can we, as practitioners, help move this trend along? With the increase in frequency and size of data breaches, and the increase in enforcement in U.S. regulations for healthcare security, the C-suite is finally getting more involved in security but CISOs and CIOs are finding it as difficult as ever to secure the budgets necessary to enhance their security programs.

“It all comes down to money for an organization--multiple priorities vying for the same investment dollars,” said Ms. Chaput. “If leaders really understood the repercussions and costs resulting from a data breach, as well as the competitive advantages that increased security and HIPAA compliance could bring to their organizations, the return on investment in strengthening their compliance programs would be far more compelling. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to share information and insights at this important event with fellow risk management and security executives.”
