Seeing her young niece falling into a depressive state, Weezy, the great aunt, tells Phoebe a story about a lost love she had during World War II with a soldier; she is still shaken by her lost love, because he was never found or heard from… he just disappeared one day in Europe.
Once in Denver, readers meet Franny, Phoebe's older sister, and Jenna, Weezy’s older sister. It is here that a long-kept family secret is finally revealed and a mysterious white rose is found on Weezy’s pillow. What is the family secret and who put the rose on Weezy’s pillow?
