Massage Envy announced this week that it will join the fight against arthritis by donating a portion of its proceeds to the Arthritis Foundation on Sept. 19. Massage School San Diego, which promotes overall wellness and helps people find massage therapy schools, has announced its support of Massage Envy’s choice to contribute to the Arthritis Foundation, as it will bring exposure to the massage industry and the healthy living movement as a whole.
As part of the annual Healing Hands for Arthritis Event, Massage Envy has announced that all its Massachusetts locations will donate part of their proceeds to help fight arthritis. Last year, more than half a million dollars was raised through this event. On Sept. 19, $10 from every massage performed at a Massachusetts Massage Envy location will be donated to the Arthritis Foundation. Additionally, Massage Envy’s spa branch, Murad, will donate 10 percent of all its product sales on the same day.
Arthritis is an inflammatory condition of the bone joints caused by worn or broken down cartilage. When cartilage is sparse, it causes bones to rub together, causing inflammation, stiffness and significant pain. Arthritis can affect one joint or many, and there are more than 100 specific types of the condition, including the most common, Osteoarthritis.
Massage Envy is a chain of massage therapy providers that can be seen all across the country. The company also has several spa locations, in which facials and other beauty services are offered. Altogether, Massage Envy boasts more than 700 locations and has given more than 30 million massages since opening.
The Arthritis Foundation is a nonprofit group that works to prevent, manage and discover a cure for arthritis, a debilitating condition that ails one in every five adults. Started in 1948, the Arthritis Foundation helps provide educate the public on arthritis by providing information resources such as drug guides, doctor referrals, books, brochures and more. The foundation also provides programming and exercises classes to help arthritis sufferers manage their pain and improve joint health, fights for arthritis-related legislation, and provides funds for medical research.
