Yahoo! has appointed Singapore-based Matchmove Games ("http://www.matchmovegames.com") as its exclusive casual games provider for its popular Yahoo! Games sites in Southeast Asia.
Under the partnership, users who click from the Yahoo! Games site on any of the six Yahoo! country front pages, as well as Yahoo! Asia, will link to the co-branded Yahoo! and Matchmove Games site. From there, users can choose from hundreds of the world's most popular online game titles to play on the site or download, including games from renowned publishers PopCap Games, Alawar Entertainment and Playrix Entertainment.
"Casual and social games attract a very wide audience, especially adults in their 20s to late 30s. We are offering game developers, publishers and advertisers the opportunity to reach this massive audience through just one platform: Matchmove Games," says Shailesh Naik, CEO of Matchmove Games. "We believe there is a fantastic opportunity in the casual and social gaming industry, especially by partnering with Yahoo!"
"Online gaming is a huge on-ramp for consumers to the internet and we are happy to be able to provide millions of our users with compelling experiences as they come to Yahoo! every day," says Ken Mandel, Vice President and Managing Director, Yahoo! Southeast Asia. "We're very impressed with Matchmove Games' capabilities, the unique experience their site will offer Yahoo! users and their great catalogue of game titles."
Reach millions of online gamers
"The online game audience in Southeast Asia is simply massive," says Naik. "Yahoo! has long been one of the major players globally and in the region, attracting millions to Yahoo! Games. By offering an even wider range of game titles, as well as the ability to purchase games in local currency through a variety of locally-based payment solutions, we aim to dramatically grow this audience."
Matchmove Games' focus is on Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam - countries that are among the fastest growing in the world in terms of internet penetration. Matchmove Games' current site is in English but plans to introduce local language versions of the site (as well as local language game content) in the coming months.
"While casual games have universal appeal, we also believe local language, culturally relevant games and local payment solutions are the elements that will ensure our success," adds Naik.
Advertisers can choose from standard ad units placed throughout the site's pages or the Matchmove Games monthly newsletter. Yahoo! Southeast Asia and Matchmove Games will be jointly selling advertising on the Matchmove site. Soon there will also be opportunities to advertise within the games themselves, Naik adds.
"We also invite game developers and publishers from all over the world, and especially those in the region, to partner with Matchmove Games to make their games available to millions of game enthusiasts across Southeast Asia, whether it be the simple Flash game or the immersive MMOG," says Naik.
