Math Goodies announces the celebration of its tenth anniversary online. Established in July of 1998, the popularity of this web site rapidly increased through a grass-roots movement by teachers and students. Math Goodies was a pioneer of interactive math instruction and free homework help. These resources are still available after ten years, along with many new ones.
Over the past ten years, Math Goodies has expanded into a math help portal offering extensive libraries of interactive lessons, worksheets, learning games, articles, and forums. These resources were designed to make math fun for learners of all ages. Today, there are more than 500 pages of activities for students, educators and parents.
"In 1998, the online educational community was just starting to emerge," said Gisele Glosser, author of Math Goodies. "At that time, only a handful of sites offered math help, and most people did not have email. Online homework help was offered only by a small number of teachers."
In 1999, Math Goodies launched moderated forums to assist students who were struggling with math homework. "Our homework help policy has always been that students should show their work, and that answers should not be given away," said Glosser. Since then, volunteer educators from around the world have joined the forum community to guide students with specific math problems. The forums provide email notification of all posts, while protecting the privacy of members.
Math Goodies has been celebrating its tenth anniversary since January. Prizes have been awarded through free random drawings, special offers have been sent by email, and Version X of The Math Goodies CD was released. In addition, Math Awareness Month, held in April, was an exciting event for visitors. The Math Goodies site will continue to celebrate its tenth anniversary with an online treasure hunt and more giveaways. Events will be announced in their e-Newsletter, which is sent to more than 40,000 subscribers twice a month.
