Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 27, 2010
Local mattress retailer Sleep Experts continues to share the gift of sleep with North Texas families in need with a donation of more than 50 mattress sets to Central Dallas Ministries, a faith-based organization focused on fighting poverty.
Among the Central Dallas Ministries programs that will benefit from this donation are Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC), a program aiming to improve the self-sufficiency of youth aging out of foster care; CityWalk@Akard, a model of affordable permanent housing which recently opened in a 15-story office tower in downtown Dallas; and Destination Home, a program providing rental assistance and other support to chronically homeless, disabled individuals transitioning into self sufficiency.
The TRAC program has already distributed ten of the donated mattress sets to young adults who recently left foster care and moved into their own apartments. “One young lady had been sleeping on the floor for two months before she got her new mattress, and this is a typical story among her peers in the program,” said TRAC director Evy Kay Ritzen.
“At the very heart of Sleep Experts is a commitment to giving back to our local community by sharing the gift of sleep with families in crisis,” said Sleep Experts president Christine Cook. “We are honored to work with the good people at Central Dallas Ministries to help provide comfort for those who need it most.”
Gaylord Thomas, director of the Destination Home program, voiced his gratitude for the Sleep Experts donation simply. “Donation of beds from Sleep Experts is a gift for our neighbors to have a comfortable resting spot rather than sleep on a floor,” Thomas said.
Through Sleep Experts’ Rest Assured mattress donation program, every customer’s old bed is recycled and donated to charity. Upon delivery of a customer’s new bed, the old mattress is removed and completely refurbished and then donated to local nonprofit organizations serving families and children who are victims of abuse, homelessness, poverty or illness. To date Sleep Experts has provided more than 7,000 beds to the Dallas/Fort Worth community and donated over $500,000 in recycled mattresses, resulting in more than a million nights of sleep for thousands of families in need.
