When our customers tell us they’d like to see something, we listen.

Building on recent success as a replacement for the discontinued Google Mini, MaxxCAT has announced new features designed to make the transition smoother for former Mini users. The new features include easy loading of a customer-created thesaurus and the ability to easily promote results.
“When our customers tell us they’d like to see something, we listen,” said Eric Rosnick, MaxxCAT’s lead integration developer. “In this case, many of our Mini replacement program customers were asking about two specific features. The appliance had the capability, but we’d never had demand to include these features in the interface. Once we heard what the customers wanted, though, we moved quickly to upgrade the interface.
The main additions focus on helping customers refine and guide the search results for users. Administrators now have the ability to easily create and load synonyms through an external thesaurus upload feature. Once loaded, this list can offer relevant results for industry specific synonyms, allowing the customer to tailor the list to their needs.
Further refinement is achieved through the promoted results feature. Promoted results can match a search term with a specific URL, and then either heavily weight that URL to the top of the results, or negatively weight it to the bottom. In this way, administrators can guide their users towards pages that are more highly relevant, even if the contents would not suggest high relevance.
Both features, along with several small refinements to increase speed and accuracy, are available on all new MaxxCAT search appliances and to any customer who has previously purchased a MaxxCAT under the Google Mini Replacement Program.
MaxxCAT offers a range of high-performance, low cost search appliances, including the SB-350 at $3,995 and EX-5000 at $8,995. Both are part of the Mini replacement Program, which combines either of the two search appliances with the unparalleled capabilities of MaxxCAT’s Integration Services Group.
