MBNA Ireland provides many affinity cards to customers across the country and caters for every desire including rugby and football tie-ins, charities and major brands. Affinity cards are very popular with card holders, not only because they can show their support, but also because they can actually donate to their favourite club or charity by using the card.
One of MBNA Ireland’s most popular offerings is the Dublin SPCA credit card which helps card-holders to contribute to a charity that cares for sick, injured and abandoned pets and animals.
The animal shelter is in its 170th year and as this SPCA representative said, they benefit greatly from the relationship with the card provider: “Card holders can help generate funds for the Dublin SPCA by switching to our special Visa card. For every account that is opened, MBNA Europe will make a contribution to the Dublin SPCA and a further contribution will be made every time the card is used for a retail purchase.”
As well as receiving a donation alongside every purchase made on the card, the Dublin SPCA also receive a charity donation from MBNA Ireland every time a new account is opened. The affinity partnership between the lender and the charity is beneficial to all parties, not least the card-holder who can feel content that by doing their normal shopping, their charity of choice is being supported.
Speaking about the Dublin SPCA card, a MBNA representative commented: “Dublin SPCA is Ireland's largest animal welfare Organisation, working hard for the care and protection of all animals. Now card users can help through the Dublin SPCA Credit Card.”
But Dublin SPCA aren’t the only charity to be benefiting from card-holders, affinity deals are becoming ever more commonplace in the credit card market with MBNA alone providing over 400 such products.
MBNA Ireland offers card-holders the opportunity to support Celtic football club and the Irish Farmers Association as well as other tie-ins.
For the affinity partner it’s a no-brainer as they benefit from customer’s emotional feelings towards a club, charity or brand. For MBNA, it’s a way to attract new customers who want to show their support for an organization through the credit card they use. In fact, the world’s largest credit card provider has seen an increasing amount of it’s 7 million European customers opting for affinity deals.
If the Dublin SPCA card is an example of an average affinity card, then it’s not hard to see why so many of MBNA Ireland’s customers are choosing such offerings. The card offers new customers 1.9% APR on money transfers for 10 months, the same deal on credit card balance transfers and a well below average 14.9% APR (variable) on purchases. Add to this the ‘3D secure’ feature and online card services management and a feel good card starts to feel even better.
