Locally Authored "Me and Green" Children’s Book Receives 2010 National Indie Excellence® Award

"Me and Green", a children’s book about sustainability co-authored by Jacksonville entrepreneur Mary Tappouni and educator Catherine Burkee, has received a 2010 National Indie Excellence® Award in the Environment/Green category.

"Me and Green," a children’s book about sustainability co-authored by Jacksonville entrepreneur Mary Tappouni and educator Catherine Burkee, has received a 2010 National Indie Excellence® Award in the Environment/Green category. Written by award-winning author Therese Tappouni with Mary Tappouni and Catherine Burkee, "Me and Green" was published by Breaking Ground Education Services, the educational division of Breaking Ground Contracting headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla.

"Me and Green" addresses the children who love and make a difference on Earth and includes a special section for teachers and parents with activities for children to do at home and at school. "Me and Green" is the first in a series of books and products by Breaking Ground Education Services that will inform children and adults the positive ways each person can contribute to a sustainable life. Published on recycled paper with soy ink, "Me and Green" is written for all ages and is an appropriate read-along for 3rd graders.

The authors of "Me and Green" each bring a unique perspective to the book. Therese Tappouni has authored six books, is a board certified medical and clinical hypnotherapist, creative writing teacher and CEO of the ISIS Institute. Mary Tappouni is the president of Breaking Ground Contracting and an award-winning general contractor with a passion for sustainability, education and social responsibility. She is an innovator in the construction industry and has been recognized by local, state and national organizations for her unique approach to sustainable building. Burkee is the director of education services for Breaking Ground Contracting and has worked at the elementary level as a teacher, reading specialist and data coach.
