Summit delegates will learn what motivates buyers and how to get products in front of the decision makers

More than 250 bio-medical industry professionals and healthcare officials will gather at the MedEdge Life Sciences Business Summit in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The summit takes place Thursday, June 14 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge Street, Town of Richmond Hill from 8:00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

MedEdge 2012 is billed as a catalyst for advancing Life Science ideas, connections and innovation into commercial successes. MedEdge 2012 is hosted by ventureLAB, the Regional Municipality of York and the Town of Richmond Hill in collaboration with York University.

Event organizers have worked hard to provide big opportunities promoting industry, hospital, academic and government collaborations at MedEdge 2012.

“Summit delegates will learn what motivates buyers and how to get products in front of the decision makers” says Jeremy Laurin, President and CEO of ventureLAB - York Region's Regional Innovation Centre. “Purchasing organizations will be exposed to local innovative bio-medical technology companies and make the contacts necessary to build strategic alliances and partnership.”

MedEdge 2012 highlights two main opportunities in York Region - Life Sciences and IT convergence. Numbers tell the story:

Centrally located in the Greater Toronto Area, York Region is home to nearly 300 Life Sciences companies. Teva Pharmaceuticals, Johnson & Johnson, Apotex, Smiths Medical, Drager Medical, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer/Wyeth, GeneNews and Abbott Canada operate in York Region. The region also holds more than 3,500 Information & Communications Technologies (ICT) firms - the highest number of ICT companies per capita in Canada, the highest concentration of Canada’s 250 largest ICT firms (Branham 2011) and is a location of choice for leading Healthcare IT solution providers. IBM Canada, Nightingale Informatix, Cerner Corporation, OpenText, Avaya, Philips Healthcare, Lexmark Healthcare, Alcatel Lucent and CGI all operate in York Region.

Eve Moore, Director or Operations at HandyMetrics Corporation feels that convergence of these two sectors is a huge benefit. “It is precisely this convergence of Life Science and ICT which has led to the development of MedEdge as the platform for technology providers and purchasing decision makers to interact and build relationships that lead to long term mutual benefit.”
