Media Logic marries its social marketing expertise with Reeher’s targeting technology.

“What Media Logic brings to the table is the ability to take that data and create innovative outreach initiatives that get alumni engaged and interested in their alma mater again.”

In an effort to create stronger ties with alumni and boost fundraising efforts, Media Logic has partnered with Reeher LLC, the leading developer of cutting-edge software services for higher education fundraising, to provide a new offering that allows colleges and universities to target and engage alumni on social media networks.

“At Reeher, we are able to use predictive modeling and analytics to find specific alumni and donors and gather key intelligence about their social media usage,” explains Andy Reeher, the company’s founder and president. “What Media Logic brings to the table is the ability to take that data and create innovative outreach initiatives that get alumni engaged and interested in their alma mater again.”

According to the Council for Aid to Education (CAE), a national nonprofit based in New York City, contributions to colleges and universities in 2009 fell by 11.8 percent – the greatest decline ever recorded – largely due to the steep decline in alumni giving and participation. While contributions to colleges and universities historically rise and fall along with the Gross Domestic Product, several recent studies have questioned the utility of traditional communication vehicles, such as alumni magazines and direct-mail campaigns, to effectively support modern-day fundraising efforts.

“In today’s world of increasingly competitive appeals, donors are seeking a connection to an institution and want to be engaged,” explains Randy Burge, Senior Vice President at Media Logic. “The value of our approach is that we help clients uncover and publish content that is relevant to alumni, create promotions to keep them coming back and, ultimately, build a base of engaged alumni who are receptive to giving.”

The new solution works in concert with an institution’s donor database to identify alumni who are using social media, target outreach initiatives and gather relevant data. Then Media Logic team members work with the institution to jointly manage strategic social media campaigns that can complement or even replace traditional outreach efforts.

“By cultivating relationships with alumni on their preferred social media network, institutions have an opportunity to engage with alumni at an unprecedented level and create new fundraising strategies for the future,” says Reeher.
