Known for both his professional acumen and expertise as one of the leading lawyers and mediators in Texas, John S. Powell has also established a reputation as a firm supporter of his local community and a believer in the power of education. In response to funding cutbacks that have forced many Texas school districts to eliminate special programs, Powell, as a board member of the Pearland ISD Educational Foundation, has helped organize the Founder’s Campaign to raise initial funds for teacher’s grants. Powell led by example, donating $1,000.
“We must support education,” Powell said. “You can’t just be in it for yourself in this life. You have to think of the future. Budgets are tight everywhere – but as a community we can keep the sort of programs that will give our kids the best possible chance in life if we pull together. That’s what the Pearland ISD Education Foundation is all about, and why I’m proud to be on the board and known as a Founder of the campaign.”
All individuals who donate $1,000 or more will be honored as Founding Donors for the life of the foundation. The funds raised will be used to award grants to teachers in the Pearland school system who submit proposals for programs in their classrooms and schools that have been eliminated due to funding cutbacks.
Mr. Powell is a graduate of both the University of Tulsa College of Law and the University of Houston Law Center, and has been practicing in Pearland since 1998.
