Media-X Systems announced today it will release iPad and Android clients for its popular eWalk® mobile data collection program later this year.

The new clients will be made available to eWalk users at no additional charge. Currently Media-X provides iPhone, PalmOS, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and desktop clients for eWalk. The desktop version runs on MacOS, Windows and Linux.

“Our customers are beginning to purchase devices running Google’s Android operating system, and we think it’s important that eWalk be available to them this year,” said Steve Moretti, President/CEO of Media-X. “We are excited about these platforms and the range of options they offer to our customers,” he said.

With new Android-based smartphones being released by HTC, Dell, Samsung, LG and Motorola, Media-X believes the platform will continue to grow in popularity with its customers.

“The Android platform offers a great user experience, and is ideal for eWalk,” said Paul Shuster, Media-X VP of Product Development. “Support on a variety and a responsive interface make it a natural platform for development.”

Currently the iPhone/iPod Touch version of eWalk is used in the majority of most new eWalk implementations, especially in US school districts where the program is widely used in states such as Nevada, Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia and Louisiana.

With the release of the iPad by Apple on April 3, Media-X is preparing a version of eWalk to take advantage of the large 1024 x 768 pixel resolution.

“Using eWalk on the iPad will be a unique experience,” said Robert McGregor, Media-X Manager of Development. “It will have the portability of our handheld versions, but with the power and display options normally available only on the web or desktop.”

McGregor says the iPad version of eWalk will be a “new” platform – using features and functions from both the handheld and web versions and combining them in a way that creates a more powerful range of options for users than is available now.

Although ship dates for the new versions have not been finalized, Moretti said all eWalk customers will automatically have access to the new versions at no additional cost. He said Media-X is on schedule to support a release for the upcoming 2010-11 school year.
