Baby Born with Cerebral Palsy Due to Alleged Medical Malpractice by Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center - Lawsuit Filed

Micah Welch was born April 10, 2012, after his mother returned to Los Angeles-County USC Medical Center less than 24 hours after she was sent home with uterine contractions. Micah’s mother, Dyrene Loftis, has other children who were both delivered by C-section, which increases the risk of uterine rupture in subsequent children, according to court documents.

Ms. Loftis uterus ruptured before Micah could be delivered, resulting in a severe lack of oxygen to his brain. Micah has been transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for the placement of a feeding gastrostomy tube and an MRI of his brain shows severe brain injury. Micah has cerebral palsy and will never be able to care for himself. Los Angeles County has already rejected a claim that was filed prior to this lawsuit. This according to court documents.
