The armed raid of peaceful Oaksterdam University epitomized the current misallocation of law enforcement resources, but it also galvanized California’s medical cannabis community
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) April 18, 2012
Despite a rash of high profile raids by the federal government, medical cannabis patients and activists are gearing up to celebrate 4/20, International Cannabis Day. Celebratory events around the nation are expected to have a decidedly political flavor this year in response to escalating tension between the federal government and patients rights activists.
In the East Bay, which just witnessed the federal government’s armed raid of the nation’s premier marijuana growing school, Oaksterdam University, at the same time seven people lost their lives to gun violence less than a mile away, many are looking to medical cannabis leaders like Steve DeAngelo for insights and inspiration. DeAngelo has announced two days of public appearances on April 20th and 21st.
“The armed raid of peaceful Oaksterdam University epitomized the current misallocation of law enforcement resources, but it also galvanized California’s medical cannabis community,” said DeAngelo. “Its proximity to the 420 Holiday is perhaps fortunate, as the celebratory events around the nation are an opportunity to unite and begin to take action.”
Fresh off speaking engagements at Ann Arbor, Michigan’s ‘Hash Bash’ on April 6th and the University of Maryland Law School last weekend, DeAngelo is scheduled for an interview that will air as part of an NBC Bay Area News update on the state of the industry in Oakland.
DeAngelo is also scheduled for multiple 4/20 appearances and will host presentations and participate in several panels at the Second Annual Deep Green Festival, which will be held on April 21st at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, California. His 4/20 schedule includes:
April 20, 2012 – Harborside Health Center (Oakland & San Jose)
11:00 am to 2:00 pm--San Jose Harborside Health Center - Meet & Greet the Patients:
4:00 to 6:00 pm--------Oakland Harborside Health Center – Meet & Greet the Patients
