A hospital's standard cardiac catheter, for example, is more expensive than a box of exam gloves

Users of MediClick for the Supply Chain can now eliminate bottlenecks in their requisition approval process thanks to two new product enhancements made in Sprint 023, MediClick’s second product release of 2010.
MediClick, the leading provider of Software-as-a-Service supply chain solutions in the healthcare industry, has updated its software tool so a user can approve different dollar amounts for different types of products. Previously, users were only authorized to sign off on requisitions up to a certain dollar value regardless of the product.
“A hospital’s standard cardiac catheter, for example, is more expensive than a box of exam gloves,” says Don Boss, vice president of supply chain strategy at MediClick. “Instead of routing a request for cardiac catheters up the chain of personnel until it is accepted, the same individual who has a lower approval limit on commodity items can now sign off on the more expensive cardiac items.”
This new feature requires less people in the process so requisitions move through faster, resulting in a more rapid response to hospital needs.
Also eliminating the bottleneck in this process is a new department-level approval structure. Instead of specifying one person to create a requisition, multiple users in a department can do it.
“It’s like a communal workbox that keeps requests flowing; before they would stack up waiting for one individual,” says Al Burks, senior implementation consultant for MediClick. “This makes the requisition approval process quicker and more efficient, thus increasing productivity in the entire hospital.”
