The Meetings Community (MeCo) has announced it will offer an additional new and innovative benefit to its members by way of an additional feature to their website.

Planner members who find themselves with unused room blocks, due to either cancellation or diminished attendance, will now be able to post their unused-room availability to the MeCo website so other planners have the opportunity to pick-up the shortfall.

Messages posted are automatically available to more than 2,100 meeting and event professionals who make up the membership of the MeCo Google Group.

The concept came to fruition after a number of requests were made to the group's volunteer moderators to allow room block posts to the listserv in order to diminish or mitigate attrition fees. The MeCo team felt they were in a position to help with one of the most common meeting challenges, then investigated and developed the idea of the new portal to address the issue.

With the express permission of the relevant property, the MeCo website now incorporates a link allowing members to post unused hotel rooms for other members to pick-up. This new community member benefit levies no charge or fee from either the planner or the property. It also reinforces the MeCo website as a portal for the dissemination of information for the meetings community and creates yet another value-added advantage to being a MeCo member.

Jim Louis, CIO of Best Meetings, Inc. and MeCo Co-Founder created the necessary infrastructure on the website to facilitate postings with the completion of an online form located at http://www.meetingscommunity.org/rooms.htm . MeCo is providing this new feature based upon needs expressed by their members, but holds no vested interest, nor holds any liability in making the website available for posts regarding transactions between planners and hoteliers or sites. All posts are at the discretion and liability/responsibility of the member posting in agreement with the hotel/site property and both planner and hotel/ site indemnify and hold MeCo harmless with any transactions.

John Foster, Esq., CHME, MeCo's legal expert, recommends planners use appropriate wording in their hotel contracts in order to allow some or all of their hotel contract obligations to be assigned. The suggested wording is provided on the Hotel Rooms for Resale page at http://tinyurl.com/MeCoRoomsPage .

Andrea Gold, President of Gold Stars Speakers Bureau and MeCo Associate Moderator added: "This new MeCo feature is of incredible value to anyone who is seeking unique deals. It's a win-win situation for everyone. The meeting planner who must cancel wins, the person looking for those rooms at a great price wins and the property wins because there is no room block cancellation." Bonnie Wallsh, CMP, CMM; Chief Strategist of Bonnie Wallsh & Associates, shares, "The service MeCo is offering to its subscribers provides incredible value to those whose attendance is less than anticipated, saving their organization substantial financial damages." Wallsh further states, "It benefits others who are flexible in their date and site selection and are able to take advantage of tremendous savings. Facilities benefit by getting heads in beds."
