Cyveillances Cyber Intelligence Director to Speak at FS/ISAC Members Conference

Terry Gudaitis to Present on Activists Against the Financial Services Industry

(Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) May 11, 2007 -- Cyveillance:

WHAT:

Terry Gudaitis, PhD, Cyber Intelligence Director, will present at next week's 2007 Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS/ISAC) Members Conference on how activist groups are targeting the financial industry. The discussion will include various "attack" scenarios of how these groups have operated in the past and how their past behaviors will provide indicators of their future behaviors against the financial services community. Some of these groups (i.e., SHAC, ALF, RAN, RisingTide) have demonstrated their ability to target executives, vandalize, and escalate past the point of a peaceful protest. In addition, Dr. Gudaitis will also discuss how to gain insight/information about these groups and what an organization can do from a number of departmental perspectives to maintain security and brand preservation.

WHY:

Attacks by activist groups targeting the financial services industry are growing in number and sophistication. Due to these growing threats, it is important to gain a better understanding into the minds, the objectives, and the protest methods of these activist groups. There are several categories of protest groups such as antiwar, animal rights, and clean energy. These groups, due to electronic communication (i.e., Web sites, forums, listservs) have shared strategies, publicized activities, and proliferated their messages. Activities of these groups range from peaceful demonstrations, "sit-ins," email petitions, e-campaigns, and picketing outside facilities and residences to acts of violence. Financial services organizations must understand and take the proactive steps necessary to protect their clients and themselves from these ever-changing threats.
