We have never seen a more beautiful place in the world!

Memorial Day weekend has traditionally been described as the beginning of the summer tourist season for Panama City Beach, Florida. This year, with the 143rd celebration of the great American holiday now in the history books, the initial reports coming in from Panama City Beach hotels such as the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort, appear to show a hugely successful weekend; setting up for what promises to be a busy summer season.

Looking back one year, Panama City Beach was suffering from the perceived negative impacts of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico. One year ago, reservations were being canceled and guests were overly concerned about whether or not oil would eventually find its way to the sugar white sands of Panama City Beach. There was nothing that anyone could do except wait and see. Thankfully, only very small particles of oil ever made its way to the beach, however, the economic damage had already been done.

In sharp contrast to 2010, Panama City Beach recently experienced a strong Memorial Day weekend. As a result of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy being out of the picture, along with the positive media attention from such national organizations like the weather channel (wherein Panama City Beach was named their favorite beach in Florida) many guests are now returning.

One such family visiting for the first time, the Blands from North Georgia, were vacationing behind the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort and said, "We have always heard of how beautiful the beaches were here in Panama City Beach, and now we know why! When we walk the sand actually squeaks under out feet! We have never seen a more beautiful place in the World! Our kids are all having a great time and we are already planning a return visit sometime this fall for a beach family reunion."

The motives for trips to Panama City Beach, Florida, have been as varied as the brightly colored bikinis that were seen all along the beach. Some were looking to escape the bad weather and devastating storms that hit parts of the country earlier this year, while most wanted to celebrate and honor the true reason behind the holiday. Regardless of the reason, the momentum gained during Memorial Day weekend typically carries through to the summer season, and no one deserves a break more than Florida's Gulf coast.

With most Panama City Beach businesses offering more deals, entertainment and value than ever before, hotels and resorts are hopeful that with a little help from the national media the stage is set for "The World's Most Beautiful Beaches" to once again be enjoyed by vacationers from all across the country.

The Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort is a family-friendly Hotel and Resort in Panama City Beach, Florida.
