Focus GPS, currently in Beta testing with children and adults, supports the three critical executive functions of memory, concentration, and organization. The software permits ADHD users to easily step through complex thought processes and effectively manage shifting priorities. This Beta version of Focus GPS is the culmination of 20 years of daily use, testing, and continual improvements.

The founder of Memory on Demand, Ray E. Omholt, suffered a stroke in 1990 that damaged his executive functions. In the years following, he researched the working of the brain and its ability to remember, concentrate, and organize facts and thoughts. Based on his research and over twenty years of empirical development, Omholt created Focus GPS, the software he now uses daily to support his memory and increase his organizational capabilities. The use of multiple information pathways that underlie the unique effectiveness of Focus GPS has been the subject of a recent research article published on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 by Ellen Klienerman of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. In her article, MS Kleinerman quoted the following from Dr. Joseph Hanna, Chairman of the Department of Neurology at the (Cleveland) MetroHealth Medical center; “Word association, repetition, visualization, saying the facts out loud, and using touch in the learning process can help you retrieve the material from different pathways”.

The design of Focus GPS utilizes the following pathways:

Association Pathway: Related words and subjects are grouped together for ease of prioritization and for ease of recollection.

Repetition Pathway: Users create a header, then a thought-line, and then assign a priority – a triple repetition.

Visual Pathway: Users easily remember the visual landscape of bolded headers and single, unwrapped thought-lines.

Auditory Pathway: When voice recognition is used instead of typing, this creates an auditory pathway.

Sensory Pathway: The sensation of “vibrating” (haptic) virtual keys as information is typed activates a sensory pathway.
