Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) June 30, 2012

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA), reported on Thursday, the forecast for June through August this year will be warmer than normal. They are predicting that temperatures in the southwest region of the US will increase by as much as one to two degrees above average. Keep looking up, a roof has the ability to provide savings to homeowners.

Alex Simpson, owner of All Star Improvements, has 30 years of experience in the roofing industry, he gives his suggestions on how a roof can save money for homeowners.

Proper roof ventilation can relieve the strain on air conditioning. Roof ventilation keeps fresh air moving through the attic. Vents or soffits are installed on the roof and they expel the hot air from the roof or attic. “Having a vented attic lowers the temperature, and lowers the cooling bill. To get the full benefits of a cooled off attic, check that insulation from the attic is not blocking the vents,” said Andrew.

A Sprayed Polyurethane Foam Roof System, (SPF) is becoming a popular solution for lowering energy bills. “Polyurethane Foam is sprayed onto the roof creating a seamless, thermal blanket that insulates and shields the roof from infrared rays. The roof never heats up as the heat is not convected to the inside of the building,” explains Andrew. The insulation is proven to save 30% - 70% on energy consumption.

“A Cool Roof is a reflective roof, rather than absorbing heat it reflects heat,” said Alex. Black or other dark colored roofs have low-reflectance surfaces reaching temperatures of 150 to 190°F during hot weather and contribute to increased cooling energy use and higher utility bills. In contrast, lighter-colored "cool roofs" with high reflectance can stay up to 70° cooler than traditional materials during peak summer weather.

“Improvements and new technology are constantly being made to roof systems, that is why it is helpful to contact a professional, they can let homeowners know all the benefits a roof system has to offer,” said Alex.
