Johnson Law Group, a leading mesothelioma law firm with a track record of successfully fighting for its clients rights, continues its nationwide mesothelioma cancer awareness campaign with a focus on treatment options for those afflicted by this serious – and uncommon -- ailment.

“Spreading awareness regarding mesothelioma cancer treatment options is so important, because it’s a relatively rare kind of cancer,” commented Nick Johnson, experienced mesothelioma attorney and Principal of Johnson Law Group. “As a result, it can be difficult for some people to get the timely treatment information they need in order to make informed decisions. And while it goes without saying that individuals must talk to their doctor to fully understand the various mesothelioma cancer treatment options available to them, we hope that this phase of our awareness campaign sheds light on some treatment options, so that individuals can move forward without delay to get the most effective treatment possible.”

  •     SURGERY: Surgery for mesothelioma cancer is conducted for one of two reasons: to try to cure the cancer, or to relieve (palliate) pain and other symptoms caused by the tumor. Surgery to try and cure the cancer is also known as potentially curative surgery. This type of surgery may be an option for individuals who are otherwise in good health, and when the cancer has not advanced too far to be completely removed.
  •     RADIATION THERAPY: Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays or particles to kill the cancer cells. Unfortunately, aiming radiation towards the malignant tumor without affecting nearby normal tissues has traditionally been difficult. The good news, however, is that new radiation therapy techniques may make this form of treatment more effective.
  •     CLINICAL TRIALS: Clinical trials are carefully-controlled research studies that are conducted with patients volunteer to participate. The goal of these studies is to explore promising new treatments or procedures that are otherwise unavailable to the general public.
  •     ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES: This is perhaps the most controversial category of treatment, because there is no shortage of so-called “information” on the Internet and elsewhere, all claiming to cure cancer or relieve symptoms. Often (but not always) these alternative methods include vitamins, herbs, special diets, massages, and so on. While some of these treatments can possibly lead to overall health improvement (which is why they are listed here), it’s important to note that most of these alternative treatments have not been tested or proven to work in treating cancer, and should in no way replace medical treatment. You should always talk to your doctor before attempting any alternative treatments, even if they claim to be harmless, safe or will not interfere with existing treatments.

“Before deciding on any treatment plan, it’s very important to have an idea of its likely benefits and possible risks,” advised Nick Johnson. “Again, mesothelioma cancer is rare, and so it’s important for people to speak to a doctor who has experience treating people with this kind of cancer.”
