MetaDesign, a global branding and design firm, today announced its role in creating a new brand platform and identity for Berlin & Beyond Film Festival, the premier German-language cinematic festival presented by the Goethe-Institut.

Now in its 16th year, Berlin & Beyond has featured more than 500 films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland to over 110,000 American filmgoers. Held at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, Berlin & Beyond offers American audiences a unique glimpse into the history, progression and innovation of the latest films from German-speaking countries.

Berlin & Beyond enlisted MetaDesign to develop a new brand identity to further engage and attract filmgoers to the 2011 Berlin & Beyond Film Festival.

"Our project collaboration with MetaDesign was illuminating and rewarding," said Berlin & Beyond Festival Director Sophoan Sorn. "From our engaging strategy discussions and brainstorming sessions, we were able to reflect on and grasp the core essence of who we are and how we want to be seen in our local community and in the wide-ranging international film industry. MetaDesign intelligently developed for us a brand system with a memorable logo that is contemporary and visible, along with stunning visual designs that encapsulate our 2011 festival theme – Light, Love and Revolution."

The concept of the new brand design highlights the curating and gathering of films; the yellow and black colors reflect spirit and creativity. The new identity provided the foundation for all aspects of Berlin & Beyond Film Festival communication and was executed across different touchpoints.

“We recognized our client’s need for a dynamic brand system that offered longevity, yet that was flexible enough to support future Berlin & Beyond Film Festival themes,” said Stan Zienka, Creative Director of MetaDesign San Francisco. “The end result represents an iconic image that marries creativity and spirit, which is what Berlin & Beyond represents.“

The 2011 Berlin & Beyond Film Festival will take place October 20-26 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco and October 29 at Camera 12 in San Jose. To learn more about films and showtimes, visit http://www.berlinbeyond.com.
