San Clemente, CA (Vocus) November 23, 2010
Does dietary supplement quality vary from one manufacturer to another? As naturopathic doctors and other health care professionals increasingly embrace the use of dietary supplements to support their patients’ health, their ability to objectively determine differences in quality has never been greater.
Dietary supplements are often misperceived as commodities, unaffected by a company’s quality control or manufacturing processes. But in fact, these practices can greatly impact the efficacy and potency of a dietary supplement. To shed light on how, Metagenics, Inc., a life sciences company and leading developer of therapeutic nutrition, and the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), the only national trade association focused primarily on herbs and herbal products, have teamed to offer “Evaluating Product Quality in Dietary Supplements,” a one-and-a-half-day workshop designed for health care professionals.
Workshop attendees will learn:
- Metrics for what defines a “quality” product or manufacturer
- Regulatory, legal, and manufacturing requirements; “best practices” in the dietary supplement industry and how they apply as metrics of quality.
- How to develop a “quality questionnaire” to help evaluate the quality of the dietary supplements they’re considering recommending to their patients.
Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) who complete the workshop will earn up to 12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
“Evaluating Product Quality in Dietary Supplements” will take place December 4-5, 2010 at the Southwestern College of Naturopathic Medicine, Rooms 7 and 8, 2140 East Broadway Road, Tempe, AZ. The enrollment fee is $250 for practicing NDs and other licensed health care professionals, or $100 for students, faculty, and staff.
