Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Methodist Charlton Medical Center and Methodist Richardson Medical Center recently received Advanced Certification as Primary Stroke Centers following on-site certification reviews from the Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. The Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers recognizes centers that make exceptional efforts to improve outcomes for stroke patients. This designation signifies that Methodist Dallas, Methodist Charlton and Methodist Richardson have met the standards which recognize these hospitals are optimally prepared to provide the highest level of quality care to stroke patients.

Mayo, president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Methodist Charlton President Jonathan Davis thanked the Methodist Charlton staff for all their dedication and teamwork to improve and save lives through compassionate quality health care for the community. "I am truly proud and honored to work with so many talented individuals," he says.

Certification is based on the evaluation of standards, performance measurement activities and clinical practical guidelines. Criteria for Advanced Certification include:
- Using a standardized method of delivering care based on the Brain Attack Coalition recommendations for establishment of primary stroke centers
- Supporting a patient’s self-management activities
- Tailoring treatment and intervention to individual needs
- Promoting the flow of patient information across settings and providers, while protecting patient rights, security and privacy
- Analyzing and using standardized performance measure data to continually improve treatment plans
- Demonstrating the application of and compliance with the clinical practice guidelines published by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association
