The students at the University of Miami learned a good lesson: you don't know what you don't know. Internet marketing requires hands on practice to master it!
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) May 02, 2012
On March 21, 2012 Matt Silvers from seo4anyone.com gave a guest lecture at the University of Miami’s School of Communications. The lecture was an interactive session with a class of twenty-five undergraduate students. The session was centered around the best practices for internet marketing, with emphasis on Pay Per Click (PPC) Marketing.
The students all took part in Google’s University program where they provided $250 worth of PPC ads for each student to use. The students teamed up with local Miami businesses to learn how to use Google’s PPC network and tools to drive more traffic to the local small businesses.
Feedback from the guest lecture was very positive and word was spread to other professors within the University of Miami School of Business about the success of the class. Seo4anyone was contacted by an assistant professor to come back to the campus on April 16 and cover other internet marketing topics with the class. This lecture would focus less on PPC Management and more on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Social Media Management. Seo4anyone is well known in South Florida as a leading SEO expert in Miami and the Fort Lauderdale areas.
In recent years, seo4anyone has expanded their core services to include Social Media Marketing services. Helping local Florida businesses create and manage their Facebook, Twitter, Google +1, LinkedIn and Pinterest Boards has led to their reputation as Miami’s top social media consulting expert.
The class reviewed several case studies of current SEO projects and social media management projects still in progress with seo4anyone.com. The students have never worked on SEO projects, so the concepts of keyword research, on-site content optimization and natural link building techniques were discussed. Several students jumped in with ideas on how to trick Google into achieving better rankings. They were quickly brought back down to reality when they realized that whatever they could think of, the geniuses at Google have probably thought of the same tricks over the past 12 years.
In the social media portion of the discussion, it was a surprising how few of the students were interested in Pinterest. This social media picture sharing site is now number three in referral traffic, but the students were less than enthused with the service. More interest was shown by the UM students when Facebook and LinkedIn were discussed. “Of course the students knew how to use Facebook for their personal use, but I was curious to find out how little they knew about the business side of Facebook and the use of Fan Pages,” said Matt Silvers.
Showing the students how other Miami based companies are using social media and organic search rankings to grow their businesses had a strong impact on the students. “Having them relate to local South Florida businesses both in Miami and in Fort Lauderdale really allowed the concepts to hit home” said Silvers.
