Michaele Taylor, of Michaele Taylor Haircuts for Men, comes from a long line of Italian New York barbers. Her focus is men; she finds refuge in the loyal nature of the bunch, and was named after one herself - her dad. Taylor stumbled upon her current unique locale by inquiring about 550 West C Corporate Center’s storage area, and the rest, as she says, is history.
Her downtown setting, conveniently situated at 1130 Columbia Street, is the quintessential refuge for a gentleman looking for a quality, scissor cut in a masculine environment. With ESPN on the widescreen TV next to her timeless barbershop chairs, she offers local lawyers and businessmen “precision haircuts” that will hold their style with the same control as the day it was trimmed.
"The difference between a good and bad haircut is 2 weeks,” Taylor says. "I fix bad haircuts for men. I know men, they are simple creatures; they want to be flattered, pampered and praised. I'm here to spoil men with a get-in, get-out 30 minute haircut in a comfortable and pleasant environment.”
Her grandfather, a long-time barber in New York, holds a special place in her heart. She loves watches and clocks with proof residing in her elegant decor (designed by sister Donna Taylor of Donna Taylor Design), which is adorned with a classic grandfather clock. She finds it comforting and lucky, but she maintains the slow gongs also perpetuate much of that luck towards her law-practicing regulars. “For good luck come get your haircut before a case. Give it a try. My record speaks for itself.”
While she is convinced that her hairstyles provide the luck needed to win court cases, her passion lies in all men, plain and simple.
"It's not hard to make a man look sharp and professional,” Taylor notes. “Every man is good looking; you just need a hairstyle to bring out their good looks. Looking like a silver-haired professional subconsciously instills confidence. Trust me, your wife won’t want you to go anywhere else!"
