Melissa Demorest, of Demorest Law Firm, PLLC in Birmingham, MI, was recently named the YWCA of Western County’s 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Ms. Demorest served as Chairperson of Western Wayne County’s YWCA in 2009.
The YWCA is an organization dedicated to eliminating racism and has been empowering women for over 150 years. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA pulls together members who strive to create opportunities for women’s leadership, growth and power in order to attain a common vision: justice, freedom, and dignity for all people.
Melissa Demorest graduated cum laude in 2005 from Wayne State University Law School, where she was the Assistant Editor and Senior Articles Editor of The Wayne Law Review. She completed her internship with the Honorable Nancy G. Edmunds, U.S. District Court Judge of the Eastern District of Michigan, and completed her B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in Economics with a minor in French and Francophone Studies. Ms. Demorest joined Demorest Law Firm, PLLC in 2005, specializing in business law, employment law, real estate law and appellate practice. She volunteers on several committees for the YWCA of Western Wayne County was awarded the Young Professional of the Year Award by the YWCA in 2009.
