Atlanta, GA (Vocus/PRWEB ) December 9, 2008 -- With MicroISV/Startup Bootcamp, You Get to Make the Rules, February 20-22, 2009

Bob Walsh doesn't want you to daydream about starting your own business. He wants you to do something about it.

And now you can.

February 20-22, 2009, Bob Walsh, author of Micro-ISV: From Vision to Reality,' comes to the Big Nerd Ranch with a mini-bootcamp designed for the experienced programmer who is ready to fire his boss and start his own business. Walsh, who recently began a weekly Startup Success podcast, offers weekly Micro-ISV tips and interviews with key movers and shakers relevant to the start-up entrepreneur.

"The very nature of the profession means that most programmers are often highly creative," said Big Nerd Ranch founder, Aaron Hillegass. "And because of what they do, they usually have their fingers on the pulse of the capabilities of new technology and are already thinking light years ahead of what is currently available on the market in terms of services and products. What they often lack is the practical knowledge to take that great idea and make it into a viable and successful business venture. Bob Walsh bridges that gap with this class."

In two short days, Walsh brings students on a grueling journey through the nuts and bolts of starting and running a business. The class uses a combination of lecture, group activities and question and answer sessions to dig deep and ultimately emerge with the first draft of a solid startup business plan.

Class topics include:

  • Defining your company's value in 20 seconds
  •
  • Building the structure (taxes, bookkeeping, domain name and payment processing)
  •
  • Positioning your product
  •
  • Developing a conversation, not marketing, plan
  •
  • Writing a bullet-proof business plan

This two day class provides the high level of excellence one would expect from the Big Nerd Ranch and provides tangible, practical advice for the entrepreneur, free from gimmicks and superficial tips. Students attending the class should be prepared to work hard and learn a new way of thinking about what they do and what they can achieve.

The Big Nerd Ranch incorporates intensive training classes for Unix and Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA. Class price of $1900 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual instructor attention.
