OMG is delighted to see the increasing acceptance of Select's Solution for MDA among .NET Framework-based developers using Visual Studio

Today Select Business Solutions, a leader in process and software development tools, and in the development of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) standards and tools, welcomed Microsoft Corp. to the Object Management Group (OMG).

Since 2002, Select Business Solutions, also a member of the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) program, has developed and supported solutions for model driven development in Microsoft Visual Studio in the form of its Select Solution Factory products.

"The Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner program aims to assist vendors to produce added-value for Visual Studio, and Microsoft is pleased to have ongoing commitment from Select Business Solutions," said Joe Marini, Director, Development Tools Ecosystem at Microsoft. "Its integration of model driven architecture techniques continues to enhance the built-in capabilities of Visual Studio 2008."

Using Select Solution for MDA built on Select Architect, a proven Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), Unified Modeling Language (UML) and data modeling tool, today's business analysts and system developers are able to transform business-friendly Computation Independent Models (CIM) into Platform Independent Models (PIM) and by applying further transformations create one or more Platform Specific Models (PSM).

"Clients of Select's Application Development Tools (ADT) division have already realized the benefits of coupling the collaborative strengths of business and application modeling with the dynamic development environment provided by Visual Studio and the .NET Framework." said Callum Potter, Development Manager at Select's ADT division. "By applying development techniques from the Model Driven Architecture, our customers have been able to build systems that meet the needs of the business, and can be more easily communicated to and understood by all project stakeholders. As a result of implementing Select's solutions they've also been able to more efficiently handle change, in the business and its requirements, and planned technology changes."

CIMs are modeled using Select Architect's business process model capabilities and transformed into PIMs in use case, class and other UML diagrams. PSMs are also held within Select Architect's UML and data modeling capabilities and may be directly synchronized with Microsoft Visual C# or Visual Basic.NET projects in Visual Studio using Select Synchronizers. By applying MDA transformations within the repository-based modeling environment, Select helps ensure that an MDA artifact can be easily traced to the business requirement that led to the creation of the artifact, thereby greatly simplifying change management.

"OMG is delighted to see the increasing acceptance of Select's Solution for MDA among .NET Framework-based developers using Visual Studio," said Dr Richard Soley, CEO of the Object Management Group. "Select is a leader in the development of MDA tools, and has been an early adopter of many OMG standards. We look forward to seeing its continued evaluation and pragmatic adoption of new standards as those standards are finalized."
