The optional four-position smart charging station, when combined with the rugged handheld's hot-swap battery feature, ensures that the Guardian Military PDA is always ready for the most challenging applications.

The Guardian Military Handheld computer battery can operate for five hours on a single charge, depending on the application. When the power level indicates a battery change is needed, the user "suspends" system operation, like a traditional PDA, with the push of a single button. In suspend mode, the on-board battery system maintains system memory and state information.

The user now has a comfortable time interval to replace the main battery. Changing the battery is simple; the one latch, positive locking battery housing is hand-operated. When the fresh battery is inserted, the Guardian Military PDA will resume operations from exactly the point where the system was suspended. No system re-boot is required, and the application is available as before.

The four-position charging station makes certain that a fully charged battery is always ready. Charging time is three hours compared to the use cycle of five hours. Therefore a single charging station can keep several Guardian rugged PDAs fully functional on a continuous basis. The smart charging function maximizes the battery lifetime by providing power only when needed.

The Guardian Military handheld computer form factor meets MIL-STD-801F and MIL-STD-461E specifications for shock, vibration and electromagnetic interference. Tested to survive a five foot drop onto concrete and sealed to IP-67, the Windows Mobile or CE based system can be adapted to a wide range of applications.

The Guardian handheld computer features a 3.7" transflective screen with resistive touch screen which is available in VGA or QVGA resolutions. Portrait or landscape viewing modes are user selectable. The system also provides a full range of I/O including multiple USB and RS-232 ports, along with RJ-45, CF, Stereo, Microphone, and DC power. System communications capabilities include Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, and GSM/GPRS/3G/3.5G.
