Unclaimedlotterys.com is reporting that several large jackpots throughout the United States will expire within the next few months.

Mark La Voy of Mesa, Arizona-based unclaimedlotterys.com, a site dedicated to finding the owners of these jackpots, said that the list of unclaimed lottery money about to expire starts at $10,000 and goes as high as an eye popping $65 million. He also stated that an unbelievable $700,000 million was unclaimed in 2007, and that number looks to be rising for 2008.
It's a growing trend. People for some reason or another just don't bother to check their tickets, or they wait to hear if the jackpot was won or not then forget to check their tickets. They don't realize that there are many top dollar prizes that they could have won. For example PowerBall players that match five of five numbers but not the PowerBall number can win $200,000 to $250,000.
Another problem is that most states really do not make much of an attempt to locate the owners of winning unclaimed tickets. They also send out press releases to the local media on all prizes of $10,000 or more. The process seems to be working.
