BMC SELECT, one of the nation's leading providers of building materials and construction services, has appointed Dave Ondrasek, currently vice president and general manager of the company's Houston operations, to chair its Millwork Best Practices Council.
''The ability to identify and integrate best practices is critical to our ongoing efforts to refine our company's operating structure and focus on our core strengths as an organization,'' Stan Wilson, BMC SELECT's president and chief operating offer, said. "Millwork has been and remains the top segment of our business -- a core competency that makes us a national leader in the millwork industry. In his new role, Dave will work directly with each millwork operation to ensure they all apply established best practices through a coordinated and consistent effort."
Although Ondrasek will remain based in Houston, he'll work closely with BMC SELECT's senior management and corporate purchasing personnel to identify key strategic objectives for the company's two-dozen-plus millwork facilities in 8 states. Wilson says key areas to address include sales strategies, sourcing and vendor relationships, equipment utilization, productivity, and expansion opportunities. He also says Ondrasek will play a significant role in the latter area as the economy rebounds and BMC SELECT proactively grows its business.
BMC SELECT operates 27 door and millwork plants in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington -- including regional multifamily and commercial facilities in Charlotte, N.C., and Frisco, Texas. It also provides installed millwork services in 7 markets in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
According to Wilson, establishing best practices councils is not new territory for BMC SELECT, which previously maintained such advisory panels for its millwork and truss operations, as well as other key segments of its business. ''In the past, best practices councils provided us with significant input and analysis that helped improve our operations potential and our financial opportunities,'' Wilson said. ''The millwork group is merely the first such council we're emphasizing since we have united under a single new brand. We are presently in the process of reestablishing numerous best practices councils for 2010.''
BMC SELECT is one of the nation's leading providers of lumber and building materials, trusses and components, doors and millwork, and targeted construction and installation services for professional homebuilders and contractors. A privately held company based in Boise, Idaho, BMC SELECT employs more than 3,700 people and operates in 11 states and 16 markets throughout the West.
