“Nothing replaces seeing the Twins live, but this is a fun way to savor a bit of that authentic ball park flavor at home.”
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 30, 2010
Twins fans can now get a bit of the authentic baseball experience at home. Three of the hot dogs Schweigert™ meats created especially for the Minnesota Twins' Target Field are now available at local grocers.
The three new hot dogs include: the Original Twins Dog™, a Tenderbite® hot dog made from the original Schweigert™ recipe served at the Twins first stadium in the 1960s; the Twins Big Dog™, a juicy, generously sized, all-beef, quarter-pound hot dog that replaces the former Twins Dome Dog; and the Twins Dugout Dog™, an old-fashioned, natural casing, coarse ground pork and beef hot dog.
The new line of Schweigert™ brand hot dogs have specially marked packages sporting the Minnesota Twins logo and are available at Byerly's, Coborn's, Country Market, Cub, Jubilee, Lunds, Super 1, Target and other select retailers throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The Schweigert™ brand has roots dating back to 1937 and is owned by Minneapolis-based Cargill. The company is producing the hot dogs at its manufacturing facility in Albert Lea, Minn.
"Nothing replaces seeing the Twins live, but this is a fun way to savor a bit of that authentic ball park flavor at home," said David Barocco, vice president of sales and marketing, Cargill Value Added Meats Retail.

About Schweigert™ Meats:
Ray Schweigert opened his first retail store in north Minneapolis in the spring of 1937. It was a neighborhood mercantile specializing in fresh and cured meat along with groceries and general merchandise. Schweigert's customers were the local residents of the neighborhood. In those days, the market was no further than a short walk to the corner. Word spread that Schweigert Meat Co. had the best, and soon a home delivery truck was added.
Within three years in the summer of 1940, Schweigert Meat Co. had grown to be the top meat shop in the area and Ray Schweigert moved to a larger plant location at 26th and Emerson in Minneapolis. With this move he added three more delivery trucks that served St. Paul and St. Cloud. It was at this location that Schweigert Meat Co. remained for almost 33 years and grew to include a fleet of more than 30 delivery trucks servicing Minnesota and parts of Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
In 1983, Schweigert meats moved to its current location in Albert Lea, Minn., eventually becoming a member of the Cargill family, where to this day it continues to carry on Ray Schweigert's tradition of making quality meats for local tastes. http://www.schweigertmeats.com.
