AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) November 20, 2008

Tri-State's top IT challenge is securing the sensitive network infrastructure that supports its power generation plants while complying with key regulations. These plants are geographically dispersed with no onsite IT staff to monitor and protect auxiliary field locations. Meanwhile, there is a continuous flow of power plant equipment vendors and contractors to these locations, most of whom connect unknown laptops and other mobile devices to Tri-State's network in the process of doing their jobs.

To address this risk, the company deployed Mirage's NAC solution to provide real-time threat assessments and behavioral policy enforcement of unmanaged devices. As a result, Tri-State gained granular visibility into its remote network operations without deploying costly IT resources.

"It's an honor to be recognized for our commitment to innovation," said Roy Jorgensen, IT Architect of Network and Security at Tri-State. "Mirage NAC has become a critical part of our security initiatives and is helping Tri-State provide reliable, affordable electric power to our nearly 1.4 million consumers."

Tri-State's NAC deployment included a centralized management server located at corporate headquarters, more than 20 remote sensors in the field, and reporting and logging capabilities that directly support federal compliance requirements. Mirage's agentless architecture was a critical success factor in Tri-State's deployment due to its ease of implementation in remote locations and ability to address issues of unknown, unmanaged devices.

"Breathing new life into outdated operations, advancing business goals with inventive use of technology -- this year's winners demonstrate, once again, that innovative, business-minded IT is the lifeblood of successful organizations," said Jason Snyder, Senior Editor for InfoWorld.
