Mirena Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) are T-shaped devices implanted into the uterus as both a contraceptive device and treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding. According to an AdverseEvents* report, thousands of women are reporting serious injuries and complications related to this device sold by Bayer Corporation. In fact, according to a recent report by AdverseEvents the FDA* has received over 45,000 reports of Mirena IUD injuries across the nation. Since receiving warnings from the FDA, Bayer has chosen not to issue a recall or provide additional warnings for the millions of women using Mirena IUDs and the medical community that implants them.
One of the most serious conditions possibly related to Mirena IUDs is an ectopic pregnancy, a life-threatening condition where the pregnancy is formed outside of the womb*. Aside from ectopic pregnancy, the May 2008 FDA* report has recognized other grave side effects including:
- Perforation of the Uterine Wall
- Migration or movement of the Mirena IUD
- Embedment of the Mirena IUD in the Uterine Wall
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Secondary side effects that can arise from these complications include infection, internal bleeding, and inflammation, thereby injuring nearby organs. Other serious side effects include expulsion of the Mirena IUD, abscesses, and intestinal perforations or obstruction, often requiring risky removal surgery.*
If you or a loved one has used a Mirena IUD and suffered these side effects, Red Law, LLP is representing women across the country against Bayer Corporation. “We’re trying to make victims whole and also prevent further injuries from occurring,” says Attorney Ryan Clarkson of Red Law, LLP. “These are very personal cases that involve highly sensitive injuries for many women, and we want to do everything in our power to help. Obtaining financial compensation and persuading Bayer to stop its harmful business practices are two meaningful ways to achieve that.”
Indeed, the injuries caused by Mirena IUD devices is a sensitive topic for many women, affecting relationships, sexual and personal health, and the family. As efforts continue to push Bayer Corporation to issue a recall, victims must be mindful of short statutes of limitations that apply to their case. Women wanting representation must seek it now. Time is of the essence for representation and financial compensation.
