We continue to receive inquiries from Mirena users who allegedly suffered painful injuries following implantation of this device. We expect that women will continue to file claims in the Mirena litigation in the weeks and months to come.
New York, New York (PRWEB) November 13, 2012
Bernstein Liebhard LLP continues to offer free Mirena IUD lawsuit evaluations to victims of uterine perforations and other alleged Mirena complications. Even as Mirena litigation grows, a new report from USAToday indicates that so-called long-acting birth control methods, including Mirena, continue to gain in popularity. * Even the influential American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has started recommending these methods as first-line contraceptives, not only for adult women but for teens, USAToday said. A number of Mirena side effect lawsuits pending in New Jersey allege use of the device caused women to suffer Mirena uterine perforations and other serious Mirena complications, according to Bernstein Liebhard LLP.**
“We continue to receive inquiries from Mirena users who allegedly suffered painful injuries following implantation of this device. We expect that women will continue to file claims in the Mirena litigation in the weeks and months to come,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm that represents the victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including the Mirena IUD.
Mirena IUD Lawsuit
Mirena is a small, t-shaped, plastic device that is inserted into the uterus by a healthcare provider, and works to prevent pregnancy by releasing a low dose of levonorgestrel (a synthetic progestin hormone) directly into the uterus. Mirena was approved in 2000 as a contraceptive, and its approval was expanded in 2009 for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding for women who desire to use an IUD as contraception. In 2009, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a letter to Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals after the agency found that one of its Mirena promotions overstated the efficacy of the device and minimized its risks. Among other things, the Mirena FDA warning letter cited marketing claims touting Mirena’s purported ability to improve a woman’s sex life and help her “look and feel great."
At least 16 Mirena IUD lawsuits are currently pending in New Jersey Superior Court. In August, Bayer petitioned the New Jersey Supreme Court seeking to have the Mirena litigation consolidated before a single judge in Middlesex County. Young women who used Mirena and suffered device migration, uterine perforations or other serious injuries may be entitled to file their own Mirena IUD lawsuit seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
