Mirena Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Oklahoma Woman Claims IUD Migrated Within Her Body, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) February 15, 2014 -- Yet another woman has filed a Mirena lawsuit (http://www.themirenalawsuitcenter.com) seeking compensation for injuries she allegedly sustained due to spontaneous migration of the IUD, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents filed in St. Clair County Circuit Court in Illinois, the Oklahoma-based plaintiff claims to have endured permanent injuries, physical pain and suffering, and mental pain, due to the Mirena side effects she allegedly experienced after the IUD migrated from its proper position in her uterus. As a result of her alleged injuries, the lawsuit says the woman was forced to undergo a surgical procedure to remove the Mirena IUD. (Case No. 14-L-131)
“Court documents from around the country indicate that more than 800 Mirena lawsuits have been filed on behalf of women who allegedly suffered injuries similar to those cited in this case,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including numerous women who allegedly suffered serious Mirena side effects. The Firm is currently offering free Mirena lawsuit reviews to women who may have been injured by this contraceptive device.
Mirena IUD Lawsuits
According to court documents, some 570 product liability claims have been filed in a multicounty litigation underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court on behalf of alleged victims of painful and debilitating Mirena side effects. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297) At least 344 Mirena lawsuits are also pending in a multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. (In re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434) All of these claims involve similar allegations regarding Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceutical’s failure to warn patients and doctors of the potential for spontaneous migration of the IUD and related complications, including uterine perforations, scarring, infection, organ damage and ectopic pregnancy.
The Mirena IUD has been available for sale in the U.S. since 2000. Originally approved as a long-acting birth control method, the device’s approved uses were later expanded to include the treatment of heavy menstrual periods in women who wish to use an IUD for contraception. In 2009, Bayer received a warning letter from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) that cited the company for making misleading claims about the benefits associated with the IUD, and downplayed the potential for serious Mirena complications.
Alleged victims of serious Mirena side effects may be entitled to compensation for the physical and financial damages related to their injury.
