Mirena IUD Lawsuits
Mirena is an intrauterine device inserted directly into the uterus to prevent pregnancy, where it may remain in place for up to five years. Mirena was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000, and later it received expanded approval as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding in women seeking to use an IUD as their method of contraception. In 2009, the FDA issued a warning letter to Bayer after finding that its Mirena promotions overstated the efficacy of the device and minimized its risks.*

A number of Mirena IUD lawsuits have already been filed by women who allegedly suffered serious Mirena side effects, including at least 16 claims in New Jersey Superior Court. Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the manufacturer of the device, filed a motion in August seeking consolidation of the New Jersey Mirena IUD lawsuits before a single judge in Middlesex County.**

Young women who used Mirena and suffered device migration, uterine perforations or other serious injuries may be entitled to file their own Mirena IUD lawsuit seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
