In 1993, Mitchell co-founded Singer Financial (Singer), a specialty finance company that focused on purchasing specialty receivables. In 1997, Enhance Financial Services (S&P AAA rated Insurance Company listed on NYSE) purchased Singer. Mitchell served as Senior Vice President and sat on the Board of Directors. During his tenure, Singer purchased over $300 million of receivables, and Mitchell was a key member of the team that was the first to securitize assets in these asset classes.
In February 2001, Mitchell joined Peachtree Settlement Funding as Chief Operating Officer and President of Peachtree Life Settlement Corporation. His responsibilities included overseeing Life Settlement originations and Structured originations. In March 2006, Mitchell was a member of the road show team that took Peachtree public on the AIM exchange in London. He also held a seat on the board as an Executive Director. Peachtree was subsequently acquired by DLJ Merchant bank and Credit Suisse in November 2006. Mitchell maintained his role as COO and Executive Director in the new entity until January 2007.
