As the number of business people working outside the office is increasing more than ever, having the right apps on their mobile devices is tantamount to their ability to perform their job functionalities.

GetApp is launching the first curated marketplace purely focused on mobile apps for business in order to help companies discover the right mobile apps and also to facilitate user acquisition for business app developers. This will become part of the GetApp experience – GetApp users can now browse a mobile section to find the best mobile apps they need to run their business.
“As the number of business people working outside the office is increasing more than ever, having the right apps on their mobile devices is tantamount to their ability to perform their job functionalities. This being said, discovering which ones are safe, and facilitate the work of certain industries – not to mention that can add ROI – are not easy to find these days,” says Christophe Primault CEO of GetApp.
The mobile business apps market is booming and is expected to double in the next years to reach $53bn in 2017 according to research firm Strategy Analytics, with 200 million mobile workers using at least one business-focused app this year. This also relates to the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) trend – as more people want to use their own mobile devices to work as it allows them a level of comfort and flexibility they enjoy. IDC describes this trend as a “once every 20-25 year shift” with mobile having the highest perceived value compared to other technologies such as social, cloud or big data.
However the market is still in its infancy and the distribution of mobile business apps is very different than for consumer mobile apps. Consumer app developers can tap a much larger target audience with critical mass of web and mobile searches to build an initial user base and can use cross-promotional advertising as an effective customer acquisition technique.
This presents a quandary for both developers and marketers and renowned author and business guru, Kevin Spain, agrees:
"For business mobile app developers the search volume for each app is low and they can’t compete with consumer apps to be featured in general app-store rankings as their target market often corresponds to vertical or features related niches. This is the challenge GetApp is tackling with the industry’s first dedicated mobile business app store." said Spain, General Partner at Emergence Capital and author of the Mobile Business Apps Landscape.
“We are using our four years of experience as the leading marketplace for cloud-based business apps to offer an answer to the mobile business apps discovery challenge for both businesses and developers,” added Primault.
The GetApp Mobile Marketplace will start with a catalogue of over 1200 “mobile-first” business apps that have been manually reviewed and organized in 25 categories according to business needs and industry focus, expanding on the limited standard “Business” and “Productivity” categories of general app stores.
Additionally all apps have been tagged so they can be filtered by OS (Android and iOS), version of OS, type of device, review score, pricing model and features (e.g. offline, subscription, print, pdf, integrations…).
The GetApp Mobile Marketplace allows users to compare 2 or 3 mobile apps side by side and to use free search text including search results highlighting. GetApp is also providing alternative and similar apps for every app listed.
GetApp is targeting industries that have a substantial mobile workforce, such as field services, healthcare, transportation, manufacturing or real estate.
GetApp expects to become the leading global hub for companies to discover mobile business applications and a main distribution channel for developers willing to gain more visibility and leveraging existing general mobile app stores more efficiently.
