Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-size business-to-consumer companies, is releasing an expert opinion on a recent mobile marketing economic impact study and why search engine optimization (SEO) is imperative for business growth.
According to the study, mobile marketing generated $139.0 billion in Internet sales in the U.S. in 2012; representing a 190% increase over the $48.0 billion recorded in 2010. By 2015, mobile marketing is expected to contribute $400.0 billion to the U.S. economy. The study also reports that nearly one-third of businesses say their brand’s main web site is optimized for viewing across different mobile platforms; 17% have a separate version of their site for mobile phones.
“The world is no longer static,” says Andy Wu, business development manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions. “Businesses focusing their online marketing efforts on desktop users are missing out on an enormously lucrative demographic. In fact, 95% of smartphone users have searched for local information, 88% of these users take action within a day, and almost 70% act on that information within the first hour.” (Source: Pham, D., “Smartphone user study shows mobile movement underway,” Google Mobile Ads Blog, April 26, 2011; http://googlemobileads.blogspot.ca/2011/04/smartphone-user-study-shows-mobile.html.)
To reach the on-the-go demographic, smaller businesses need to ensure their web sites show up near the top in local queries in search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Bing; when searching for a local business, 75% never scroll past the first page of results. Mobile users are more likely to discover a site if it includes geographically specific keywords and information, including an address and telephone number.
“Aside from being easily discoverable to mobile users, the web design has to be mobile-friendly, as well," adds Wu. "This means it has to be visually engaging and optimized for use across multiple platforms, like tablets and smartphones, meaning it has to look great and be easy to navigate. If mobile users can’t read and navigate a site’s content with ease on their small smartphone screen, they’ll find a site where they can.”
“Small- and medium-sized businesses that fail to consider local SEO strategies and a properly optimized web site for mobile users are missing out on sales," Wu concludes. "The best way to capture this lucrative, growing demographic is with a tailored local SEO campaign targeted for mobile users.”
