a 160 character text message at 20p costs £1300 per megabyte... Consumers want to save money, but most don’t realize there is even a choice when sending texts.

Telecom startup AQmobile.com is challenging international text messaging rates by offering mobile phone users an alternative method for sending texts with prices significantly lower than what the UK’s mobile networks currently charge.
A poll of text messaging rates around Europe shows that the UK has the highest international text messaging rates. UK mobile networks are under pressure by new EU regulations limit texting rates in Europe and by new companies offering lower texting rates.
International text messages are the highest margin service mobile networks provide. While wholesale rates that telecom companies pay for international text messages are very low, typically between 1 and 5p, a survey of UK networks shows Orange, O2, T-Mobile, and Virgin charge 20p for sending texts to other countries. Vodafone subscribers pay 24p. By volume of data, a 160 character text message at 20p costs £1300 per megabyte.
AQmobile’s primary objective is to save consumers money by offering the same service as their mobile provider for only 6p. “Consumers want to save money, but most don’t realize there is even a choice when sending texts,” said company founder David Bruno. “Thanks to the prevalence of data connections on phones, services can be offered over the internet and outside the mobile networks’ control. If a mobile user is paying 20p for a text, that person is being taken advantage of.”
AQmobile offers low cost texts over data. Users can send text messages from a computer or from a phone with several advantageous features. Unlike when sending an international text via one’s mobile carrier, a text by an AQmobile user will function exactly the same way as all other texts. The user’s mobile number appears as the sender; and replies go directly back to the sender’s phone. No added software is needed by the sender or the recipient. Other capabilities include managing contact lists and sending messages to multiple recipients at once. “Many people prefer to send texts from a computer rather than slowly pressing tiny phone buttons. " Until now, such services were not seamless. AQmobile unifies PC to mobile messaging. Whether sent from a phone or pc, the incoming texts appear exactly the same.
AQmobile.com is a rapidly growing text message service provider known for low prices and easy to use services. With coverage to over 500 networks in 200 countries, AQmobile has over 17,000 registered users who have sent more than 1 million texts. Many new users sign up daily to take advantage of free trials currently being offered to all new customers.
