Tegic’s XT9 Mobile Interface Named CES
Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering Award Honoree
Multi-Modal User Interface for Handsets Selected as Leading Enabling
Technology
Tegic Communications, Inc., an AOL company, today announced that version
1.1 of its XT9 Mobile Interface, a predictive text input user interface
for mobile handsets, has been chosen by the Consumer Electronics
Association (CEA) as an International CES Innovations 2007 Design and
Engineering Awards Honoree in the Enabling Technologies category.
Honored products are selected by a leading panel of industrial
designers, engineers and members of the trade press to honor outstanding
design and engineering in consumer electronics products.
Tegic’s XT9™ Mobile
Interface is a user interface that seamlessly integrates T9®
predictive text entry functionality for all text input modes, including
keypad, QWERTY keyboard and handwriting with a stylus, on a mobile
device, including a pocket PC. XT9 enables mobile users to easily
alternate between numbers, letters, symbols and languages, making it
faster and simpler to input text. Available in 25 languages, the XT9
Mobile Interface incorporates such core features as next word
prediction, enhanced word completion and smart punctuation, making it
easier for a user to key in URLs and contractions.
“Tegic continues to innovate to make text
entry on a cell phone or smartphone simpler and easier for users,”
said Bill Schwebel, senior vice president for AOL’s
wireless division. “With the XT9 Mobile
Interface, we have created a strong foundation that combines the best of
T9’s services in an easy-to-use interface. It’s
truly an honor for Tegic to be recognized by CEA this year.”
The XT9 Mobile Interface is currently available in the U.S. market on
the T-Mobile Dash™, a Windows Mobile®
smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard.
A flash demo of the XT9 Mobile Interface can be viewed at CES in Booth
#68747 at the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase, which will be
located at Innovations Plus at the Sands Expo and Convention Center.
Innovations honoree products are also featured on www.CESweb.org/Innovations,
which contains a list of product categories, as well as each product
